I Was Reminded.....

Upon reading Obama's speech to the adoring crowds in Germany for the third time, I was reminded of something else. Hearing him apologize for the "Sins of the Father". the names of Ignacio Ramos, and Jose Compean leapt to the forefront of my mind. These two former US Border Patrol Agents are still in prison after having been found guilty of violating some kind of right(?) belonging to one Aldrete Duvilla. Mister Duvilla, a Mexican drug smuggler, was granted immunity for testifying for the US Government in the case against Ramos and Compean. In effect, he was given a "get out of jail" card by Johnny Sutton, the US Attorney in Texas. Ramos and Compean were convicted, and sentenced to 11 and 12 years respectively in federal prison. Duvilla? He was subsequently caught once again, doing what he has done best: Drug smuggling into the US from Mexico!

While serving his sentence in a medium security facility in Mississippi, Ignacio Ramos was assaulted by 4-5 hispanic males, being kicked about his body, and taunted mercilessly. It is true that the federal government protects their agents at the border about as well as they do in their prison facilities. We must not forget these two men, and a certain sheriff from Texas, also doing hard time for merely doing his job. If the government were serious about enforcing our immigration laws, serious about border security, and the safety of American citizens, then these men would be free, and embracing their certificates of honorable service. President Bush most certainly could have pardoned them all, but has not chosen to do so. Three years, and counting!!

So, on this day when ordinary Americans find modest joy in repairing something, building something, visiting with friends and relatives, these three men are still denied the same ordinary joys the rest of us take for granted. We should all be ashamed, myself included. No, let's listen instead to the very ordinary, very average politicians who still try to convince us that our money is their money. I'll not bother with my local representative, rather, I will call, and email the President himself once again, asking for pardons for these men charged with protecting us, now charged and convicted, and sentenced for crimes against people who had no legal right to be in America in the first place. Let's see you top that, Obama!

Remember, we all have Second Ammendment rights. This was affirmed recently by the US Supreme Court. Protect yourselves, and demand the pardoning of these three men. Do it now!
